Watsonville Strawberry Festival
The Watsonville Strawberry Festival was founded in 1994 as a means to recover from the devastating Loma Prieta earthquake that happened a handful of years earlier. The festival recognizes the city’s most prosperous crop and provides a fun and safe family day near the end of summer. The event also acts as a fundraiser for local nonprofits that get the chance to show what they’re all about and provide some delicious food.
The Strawberry Festival takes place at Watsonville Plaza, at the corner of Main St. and East Beach St.
The weekend starts on Friday, August 4, from 5pm-9pm with live music and carnival rides.
The main festival day is Saturday, August 5. All events will be open, including live music on three stages, a full carnival, food and art vendors, a pie eating contest, and a fun run. The festival will go on from 11am to 8pm.
The final day of the festival, Sunday, August 6, will feature all the festivities of Saturday, except for the fun run.
For more information about the fun run, you can visit the race’s website. There is a $10 admission fee for the longer race and prizes will be given to the top three finishers of each age bracket.
