This Week on the Central Coast
Russo's Produce teams up with a familiar face to create a local market and Monterey High School fights to make improvements to its football field.
Russo’s plans an outdoor market featuring local vendors
Throughout the lockdown-era of the pandemic, Russo’s suffered from a lack of sales due to restaurant shutdowns. However, they quickly shifted strategies and opened up to the public. Now, that idea seems to be expanding. Russo’s announced on their Facebook page that they would be hosting a local market to the public every Friday. For some people, the biggest news was that Kristina Scrivani of Stone Creek Kitchen would be a permanent fixture at the market. Anyone who has been missing Kristina’s paella or spice blends can now pick them up directly from her.
MHS football field update meets legal challenges
Monterey High School is trying to make improvements to its athletics field, including improving visitor bleachers and installing lights. Currently, with no lights, varsity night games are played at MPC. With the improvements, high school teams would be able to play night games on their home field.
However, local residents suspect that Monterey High School is hiding something in the small print of their proposal. This has caused a drawn out legal battle, ultimately over the field. Thousands of emails and documents relating to the project were made public, but so far, all have contained normal business-related discussions.
The entire situation is at least fascinating to follow and the article details every turn of events leading up to present time. Currently, the project is still on hold while both sides make their cases to a judge.
