Montage Health Foundation awards grants to four notable physicians.
The Montage Health Foundation chose four local physicians to award grants to. The physicians each helped significantly in our local communities and the article goes into detail about how each has contributed. The grants will go back into the communities by allowing each of the physicians to pursue a particular area of interest, such as cancer treatments or addiction.
Santa Cruz begins a new effort to house the homeless.
With the pandemic beginning to come under control, the city is putting more attention into its homelessness situation. The city announced a new plan to help house the homeless, called The Rehousing Wave. The plan will provide a monthly rent payment to homeowners who want to help by providing housing.
“Mayor of Alvarado Street” statue to be installed.
A sculpture of Mike Marotta will be installed in downtown Monterey in September. Mr. Marotta “was a Monterey native who died almost two years ago at the age of 98, leaving behind a legacy as a much-loved man who brought his own brand of music, personality and history to those who met him.” The sculpture will be made by Steven Whyte, a local artist from Carmel. Whyte is also responsible for the Steinbeck character sculptures in the Cannery Row plaza across the street from Starbucks. Marotta’s statue will depict him sitting on a bench and playing his accordion and will be located at “the southwest corner of Franklin and Alvarado streets in downtown Monterey in front of Plumes Coffee and Tea.”
