The Pajaro River Levee secures funding to begin update
On Monday, local officials secured funding to begin the process of updating the Pajaro River Levee. The project is long overdue as the levee was built in the ‘40s and was almost immediately ineffective when floods happened in the ‘50s. With climate change accelerating, the project has gained even more importance. The cost of design and construction of a new levee will be shared by local agencies with 65% being funded by the government. The project will be completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Currently, only the design phase has been approved, but once that is finished construction will begin.
