This Week on the Central Coast
This week, the Monterey County Fair and Jazz Fest announced dates, PGHS seniors organized a Her Drive, and CSVS was chosen as our Nonprofit of the Year.
The Monterey County Fairgrounds has announced the dates for the 2021 fair.
The fair this year will be September 3 - 6. No other information has been officially released as of this week, however another website has quoted fair organizers saying “All ticket sales are in advance in an effort to be cashless. Tickets are $10 for adults/seniors and $5 for children ages 6-11. Children 5 and under are free.”
The website states that the fair will be operated at a limited capacity in an effort to keep things as safe as possible. The site also has the music lineup listed.
64th Annual Monterey County Jazz Festival has announced dates and tickets are available.
The festival will be September 24-26. The festival surveyed former attendees and the overwhelming consensus was for an in-person event that was both smaller and safer. Due to this response, the event will operate at half-capacity and tickets will be limited. Tickets can be purchased here.
PGHS seniors organize a Her Drive.
Two incoming seniors at Pacific Grove High School have organized a Her Drive, a nonprofit which collects and provides hygiene products for people in need. The girls applied to organize the drive in May and got approved in late June. After a couple weeks of organizing, the project finally came to fruition on July 9.
The Her Drive will continue until August 9, with collection sites at:
“Captain and Stoker at 398 E. Franklin St. and Starbucks at 865 Lighthouse in Monterey. Soon, there will be another collection box at Fusion Elite Dance, Gymnastics and All Star Cheer in Hollister.
More information about donating or hosting a collection box was provided in the article:
Donations can also be dropped off at a collection site on Saturday, July 17 and Sunday, July 18 in the Dennis the Menace parking lot at El Estero Park in Monterey from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. where Silveira and Martin will be stationed to take the goods. A third and final drop-off site will take place on July 29 at Pacific Grove High School from noon to 2 p.m.
Martin and Silveira are also encouraging any businesses interested in hosting a collecting box to contact them at (209) 232-1341.
CSVS is being honored as the Nonprofit of the Year for our area.
The Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas was unanimously chosen as the 2021 Nonprofit of the Year in the Salinas District for their diligent work of educating farmworkers about COVID-19 and providing vaccination sites and PPE.
