Canada places stricter rules on lettuce imported from Salinas Valley.
Canada placed stricter standards on romaine lettuce from Salinas Valley on Wednesday until the end of the year due to the risk of E. coli infections during the fall season. Panetta called the sudden restrictions “an unwelcome surprise”.

Giddings Berries opens a new office in Monterey.
Giddings Fruit, founded in Chile, has opened a new office in Monterey. They are one of the top berry producers in the world and the new office allows them to be closer to our major market. Giddings specializes in berries and heavily invests its efforts into “world-class berry genetic development programs”.

PG&E and Tesla collaboration is off to a good start.
The project is on track to be completed by the second quarter of 2021. Tesla Megapacks are being installed in Moss Landing as a means of storing excess energy from wind and solar sources. This excess would assist PG&E in providing energy during peak times and outages, as well as helping our area move away from fossil fuels.

Scheid Vineyards and PH Importing partner up to go national.
Scheid Vineyards and PH Importing announced a strategic alignment. The move is mutually beneficial for the two companies, with Scheid assisting in the logistics of national distribution and PH Importing bringing Scheid into the imported wine category.

Local Salinas boxer, Ruben Villa IV, defeated by decision.
Villa, 23, is a great local hero of Salinas. Not only is he a great fighter (15-1 prior to this Friday’s fight), but he also gives back to the community. His good deeds include sponsoring afterschool programs, collecting necessities and toys for homeless children, and providing masks to field workers. (Fight Stats Here)

United Way Monterey County and Monterey County partner up to help those in need.
The partnership allows those who have been affected financially by the COVID pandemic to receive help with basic needs, such as rent and utilities.
