Pacific Grove teacher is holding art classes every Saturday for neurodivergent students
Every Saturday since April of this year, Ritika Kumar has been hosting an art class for people with disabilities. Her clients are primarily school-aged, but also includes some adults.
Each class has a theme and students are encouraged to walk around and view their peers’ creations throughout the day. Kumar provides the art supplies, such as pencils, crayons, and assorted paints, and offers books and magazines for inspiration.
PGHS students visited and participated with the class. Kumar stresses that “Integration is an important part. Otherwise you will never get to know intellectually disabled people in your community. And they are the sweetest souls ever. They are so thoughtful about each other.”
Monterey Bay Football Club honored local communities with First Responders Night and Charity
On Saturday, first responders were honored at the Monterey Bay F.C. home game during halftime. Local policemen, firemen, and EMTs competed in a friendly relay-race competition.
Some fans received bracelets and t-shirts in honor of the event.
In addition to the special event night, MBFC defender, Hugh Roberts, started a charity foundation called Footy’s Got You. The charity donates money to families in need in Salinas. Roberts will donate money based on the outcome of each game:
$20 per game
$20 per win
$10 per goal
$10 per shutout
Roberts is encouraging fans to match his donations to further the positive impact on our local community.
The Hive Poetry Collective begins live readings at Bookshop Santa Cruz
Every Sunday, The Hive has been broadcasting poetry on KSQD. Now, the group will begin live readings at Bookshop Santa Cruz twice per month, beginning on July 5th.
The group wants to produce more poetry events in Santa Cruz that promote the diverse cultures of the city. Farnaz Fatemi’s new poetry collection will be available on September 6th.
