Sand City hired first woman city manager on the peninsula
Vibeke Norgaard was chosen from among twenty candidates to be Sand City’s new city manager. She will be the first woman to hold the position on the Monterey Peninsula.
Norgaard and the city council believe she will have a seamless transition into the role, since she has been the acting city manager since November and is familiar with the projects already underway.
Norgaard made a point to say that she views herself as part of a team and would work in coordination with the council. “I see the council as the what and I am the how. We’re very aligned.”
Pacific Grove announces dates for the 63rd Annual Good Old Days
After skipping the last couple years due to pandemic restrictions, The Good Old Days annual celebration is making its return.
The street fair will be on May 7 and 8, from 9 to 5pm.
Bands and performers, carnival rides, arts & crafts, and, of course, food vendors will be present. Admission is free and open to the public.
A new youth center opened in Watsonville
Luna y Sol youth center opened on Wednesday after overcoming challenges over the past year and a half due to COVID. The center aims to help improve the life of kids, ages between 12 and 17.
The program director said “if they need a ride to go to school, if they need a ride to go to a job interview, prep for a job interview, job coaching, mock interviews, we’ll be here to support the youth.
So far, out of 110 referrals, 66 youths have been enrolled. Referrals can be made by anyone, including themselves, parents or guardians, schools, probation officers, or the courts.
